LEGAZPI CITY, March 14 (PNA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Bicol joins the celebration of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) through a one-day regional consumers seminar on Wednesday at the Avenue Convention Plaza, Avenue Plaza Hotel, Naga City.
Joceleyn Berango, DTI Bicol information officer, said the theme of the celebration is anchored on building a digital world which consumers can trust through measures that would provide better digital access, security, understanding and system of redress for their major concerns.
“The DTI through this regional consumer seminar aims to create and promote a reliable digital economy that consumers can depend on without having to worry about their safety and security," she added.
The topics to be discussed in the seminar include: making the digital age work for consumers via technology and innovation; protecting consumer privacy in the digital age; getting protection from cybercrimes and online scams; and resolving consumer complaints on online transactions.
WCRD is an annual occasion that marks the day when the late US President John F. Kennedy formally addressed the issue of consumer rights on March 15, 1962 at the US Congress.
Berango said the occasion provides an opportunity to raise global awareness about consumer rights which must be protected and respected at all times.
She said other than the different consumer groups all over the region, the target audience of the seminar are the millennials who are seen as more likely to engage in many online activities that might involve e-commerce. (PNA) LAP/GVR/CBD
