Legazpi City all set for Palarong Bicol 2017

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 3 (PNA)–-Legazpi City and the Department of Education (DepEd) welcomed 7,800 athletes, coaches and school representatives from various public elementary and high schools in the Bicol Region, who trooped to this city, for this year’s Palarong Bicol that will start on Sunday.

“There will be around 12,000 visitors if you include the families of the visiting athletes” for the event that runs from Feb. 5 to 10, said

Mayor Noel E. Rosal during the press briefing and media conference on Friday afternoon at Albay Central School in this city.

He said it will be a fun week for the city, which was last year’s host of Palarong Pambansa, as it will be sharing facilities like the Bicol

University Oval and the Albay Sports Complex which were used in last year’s games.

“We want to share them with our fellow Bicolanos, especially our young athletes, so they can experience national standard facilities,” he said.

School Division Superintendent Cecile Bernadette Rivera said Department Education Undersecretary Analyn Sevilla has been invited guest of honor during the opening ceremonies on Sunday.

She said there will be a Mass at 12:30 p.m at St. Gregory the Great Cathedral to be followed by a parade at 1:30 p.m.Delegates to the event are billeted in various public elementary and high schools in the city.

Albay delegates with 850 participants are billeted at Albay Central School; Camarines Norte delegates with 720 participants at Gogon Elementary and High School; Masbate province with 595 delegates at Rawis Elementary School; Naga City with 720 delegates at Pag-asa National High school; Catanduanes at Bogtong Elementary School;Camarines Sur at Cabangan Elementary School and Tanchuling High schoo;Iriga City at Taysan Elementary school and Sorsogon province with 746 delegates at Bagumbayan Elementary School.

Sorsogon City with 495 delegates at Oro Site Elementary School and Ibalon Central School; Tabaco City with 470 delegates at Arimbay Elementary School; Legazpi City with 600 delegates at Pawa High school and EM’s Barrio Elementary School; and Ligao City with 846 delegates at Legazpi City Science High school.

Rosal assured that Legazpi City is safe in terms of security concerns for holding the big event. (PNA) FPV/GVR/CBD
