LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 2 (PNA) -- Anti-narcotics lawmen shot dead a drug peddler who tried to resist arrest during a buy-bust operation in Camalig, Albay, said an official of the Albay Provincial Police Office (PPO) Wednesday morning.
Chief Insp. Arthur Gomez, chief of investigation division of Albay Provincial Police Office (PPO), said the suspect, identified as Ben M. Nuez, 51, sensed the buy bust and shot it out with the police operatives in Barangay Libod, Camalig Tuesday afternoon.
Gomez said this prompted the lawmen to retaliate and shoot Nuez. Recovered from Nuez were two sachets of shabu (methampetamine hydrocloride), P500 marked money and a .357 magnum revolver.
He said Nuez was among those who surrendered to the Philippine National Police’s Operation Tokhang several days prior to the buy bust operation.
The combined team that conducted the buy bust was composed of the Provincial Intelligence Branch and Camalig PPO led by Chief Insp. Benito Dipad Jr., its acting chief of police.
Gomez said Nuez was the 72nd drug suspect killed since start of the illegal drug campaign of the Bicol police on July 1.(PNA) LAP/GVR/JHALLARE/EBP
