Bicol police updates community on 'Oplan Double Barrel' through giant billboard
By Jorge Hallare

LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 5 (PNA)—-A giant billboard at the entrance gate of the Bicol police headquarters in Camp Simeon Ola here is giving a daily report to the community on the illegal drug campaign.

The billboard gives an update on the number of those killed, arrested or who have surrendered as part of the illegal drug campaign "Project Double Barrel" and "Oplan Tokhang" that started July 1 up to the present.

"It is our obligation to provide Bicolanos with the latest information on the government’s campaign against illegal drugs in the region,” said Chief Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, regional director of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5).

He said the billboard also served as a warning to the drug personalities still involved in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.

PRO5 provides information on its illegal drug campaign through daily news releases in print and broadcast media. It also has accounts in social media such as Facebook, viber and twitter.

Buenafe earlier said they were optimistic they could attain the six-month time frame given by President Rodrigo Duterte to eradicate the drug menace in some areas of the Bicol region.

PRO5 data from July 1 to October 4 showed there were 587 drug personalities arrested and 62 killed in the illegal drug campaign.

The same data said 1,839 sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and 86 sachets of dried marijuana leaves were seized while 115 firearms, 39 vehicles and over Php 1 million cash were confiscated during the operations.

PRO5 recorded during the same period 45,893 surrenderers, of which 42,669 were users and 3,224 pushers.

Camarines Sur topped the list with 16,806 drug personalities who have surrendered, 12,234 in Albay, 6,300 in Camarines Norte, 4,235 in Masbate, 2,731 in Sorsogon, 1,769 in Catanduanes and 1,818 in Naga City, Camarines Sur. (PNA) RMA/GVR/JH/CBD
