LEGAZPI CITY, July 14 (PNA) -- Authorities seized Thursday dawn PHP2.13 million worth of shabu buried beside an acacia tree in Pandan, Catanduanes, a haul deemed as the biggest accomplishment of the provincial police since the war on illegal drugs at the start of the term of President Rodrigo Duterte. Senior Supt.Jesus Martirez, director of Catanduanes Provincial Police Office, said a confession from a top drug personality in the province, Randy P. Eusebio, who was arrested on Monday for possession of 12 sachets of shabu, led to the record shabu haul. A joint provincial and municipal police operation recovered 71 bulks (plastic bags) of shabu, each bulk valued at PHP30,000, after digging at 2:00 a.m. in the house of Eusebio alias “Bong” in Barangay Balangonan, Pandan town, Martirez said in his report to Chief Supt. Melvin Marlon Buenafe, regional director of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) here in Camp Simeon Ola. Martirez cited the Pandan Municipal Police Office headed by Senior Insp. Virgil Bibat for the pike-and- shovel operation. According to Martirez, the lawmen arrested Eusebio on Monday after a search in his house yielded 12 sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride.) The lawmen obtained a search warrant from Judge Lelu Contreras of Regional Trial Court Branch 42 and 43. In the course of investigation Eusebio disclosed the bulks of shabu which he buried beside an acacia tree near his house. “Eusebio even sketched the area where the bulks of shabu were buried and provided it to the lawmen,” said Martirez. Given the new information the combined the municipal and provincial police team immediately proceeded to the area and began digging, added Martirez. He said that since July 1, start of Oplan Tokhang (Visayan term for knock on doors) in neighborhoods known as lair of drug rings, the province has recorded 417 drug personalities from various towns who have surrendered.
