Media group in Albay tours world's biggest hospital ship

LEGAZPI CITY, June 30 (PNA) --- Finally, USNS Mercy Ship, the world's biggest hospital ship, arrived in Legazpi, Albay Monday morning and is open for the public who wants to view its state of the art facilities.

First batch of media practitioners in the province were able to tour around the vessel for almost two hours.

During the visit, the media personalities introduced themselves to the crew of the vessel.

A brief orientation about the USNS Mercy Ship was done. The vessel was originally an oil tanker and was converted into a modern or state of the art hospital ship in 1986.

The group viewed facilities such as the emergency room, X-ray room, CT Scan, ICU and blood bank . The blood bank has a huge stock of 5,000 cc of blood which is ready in case of emergency.

They also saw the engine room of the biggest ship.

USNS Mercy Ship has 600 medical personnel including some of the specialists like surgeons and others. This is part of the 1,200 crew of the vessel including 70 officials.

The second batch of media personalities will tour the ship on July 4 Monday. Aside from them there are more than a thousand visitors who booked their schedule for the visit, like national government agencies and local government officials.(PNA) RMA/NIM/CBD
