LEGAZPI CITY, June 30 (PNA) -- People of the province of Albay watched the inauguration and oath-taking of President Rodrigo Duterte Thursday with excitement and hope for real change and a better life for Filipinos.
"The Philippines has a new President and with this transition comes my prayer of hope that there will indeed be a change - for the better. God bless my beloved Philippines," said Armi L. Ballaran-Rabelas, a lawyer and a businesswoman here in Legazpi City.
"I loved his quotes, specially the one from F. Sionil Jose, 'We have become our own worst enemies'. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte had the courage to tell the Filipinos that change must come from all of us, as it should be," Christopher Dy-Liacco Flores, former Mayor of Guinobatan, a first class municipality in Albay.
No amount of social reengineering will ever succeed if internally, Filipinos do not experience not only a change of heart, but of mind and spirit, Flores added.
The former mayor appreciates President Duterte's call for unity exemplified by what he said, "I was elected as the President of all, the President of all Filipinos".
"I truly hope this signals a new dawn, an era of correcting wrongs and change for the better," Flores said.
Born in Davao and raised in Naga City, Nille Ann Cirunay Cayabyab was very happy as she posted in her Facebook page: "Proud!"
Maribel Morano Martinez Morel also said watching the inauguration of President Duterte made her proud to be a Filipino.
A father and a lawyer-to-be, Brando Belisario, said "I may not have voted for you Digong (Duterte's nickname), but I am excited about your leadership as the President of our country". (PNA) LAP/CBD
