Sea guardians net 12 illegal fishers

LEGAZPI CITY, June 17 (PNA) -- Members of the Municipal Agriculture Office, Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bantay Dagat and municipal police station of Sipocot town in Camarines Sur caught 12 fishermen in the act of illegally fishing in the villages of Anib, Cotmo and Calampinay at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The law enforcers led by Chief Insp. Jerome Regachuelo were on a seaborne patrol when they found the fishermen doing the illegal activity.

Arrested were Pedro DL.Villacruel, Apollo DL. Villacruel, Ricky Y. San Juan, Crisologo R. San Juan, Michael C. Yanson, Arix R. San Juan, Ryan Dela Concepcion, Marcel S. Baer, Roland R. Pinangag, Camelo P. Bincolado, Alex S. Villajean and Alejandro A. Abanto.

All suspects are residents of Barangay Castillo, Cabusao, Camarines Sur.

The sea guardians also confiscated the suspects' motorized boat, six mesh fish nets and 30 kilos of various fish species.

Regachuelo said they launched the seaborne patrol at the seas off Sipocot town due to the complaints of local fishermen about the encroachment of illegal fishers from other places in their fishing area. (PNA) LAP/FGS/JH/cbd
