LEGAZPI CITY, June 20 (PNA) -- Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) Chief Supt. Augusto Marquez on Monday morning honored and awarded the brave police officer who responded and killed a fellow officer who held up the LBC Branch in Old Albay District, Legazpi City, at about 1:20 p.m. last June 8.
The honor was conferred on PO1 Milgar Nocos, a member of the Traffic Division of the Legazpi City Police Station (LCPS), after the Monday 7:30 a.m. flag ceremony at Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola, Legazpi City.
Nocos was given the PNP Merit Medal by Marquez in recognition of his heroism when he killed PO2 Ronnie Sandrino, a member of the Pilar Municipal Police Station, who shot it out with him after robbing the LBC outlet and got away with PHP11,000.
Marquez said the PRO5 members should emulate the bravery and loyalty of Nocos in the service of the public.
After the honor ceremony inside the camp, Nocos and Legazpi City Chief of Police Supt. Jose Esico went to the office of Mayor Noel E. Rosal where the city chief executive stressed the importance of the recognition to a new but heroic police officer.
Rosal said it is but fitting that the city honors Nocos for defying the danger in the performance of his duty, even though it was a fellow officer who was involved.
He also extolled the LCPS leadership for its continuous campaign against illegal drug operations in the city.
The mayor said the LCPS arrests drug pushers almost daily but still encouraged Esico to intensify more their operations.
The police officers catch not only small-time drug personalities but also those considered "big fish", he said. (PNA) FFC/FGS/JH/CBD/EBP
