LEGAZPI CITY, June 15 (PNA) -- Suspected New People Army (NPA) rebels attacked five motorcycle-riding policemen on Wednesday, wounding one of them, in a village in Pio V. Corpus town in Masbate, a sketchy report reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) Bicol regional office said.

The incident happened at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay Casabangan, a village seven kilometers from Pio V. Corpus town proper.

The report said the team of policemen was on its way back to the town police station on board three motorcycles when attacked by suspected NPA rebels.

Police Senior Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP Bicol spokesperson, said the policemen were able to engage the communist rebels in a firefight.
