Cops nab 2 Albay village chiefs, 6 others in illegal gambling raid

LEGAZPI CITY, June 22 (PNA) -- Police operatives on Tuesday arrested eight people, two of them village chiefs, in separate illegal gambling raids in Daraga town in Albay, a report reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here said Wednesday.

The police raiding team also seized at least Php271,942.75 in bet money in a “poker” game at the Maranaw Restobar and Josephine Ihaw-ihaw and Food Service in Barangay Sipi, Daraga town, according to Police Senior Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP Bicol spokesperson.

Calubaquib said the raid was initiated by the Daraga Municipal Police Station where its men arrested Wilfredo Nayve, 47, village chief and resident of Barangay (village) Market Site, Daraga; Napo Cardel, 53, village chief of Barangay Binanuahan, Legazpi.

Others collared were Margie Barcelon, 51, of Barangay Sagpon; Elvie Mapagdalita, 44, of Barangay Bagumbayan; Dick Galicia, 50, of Barangay Sagpon; Noel Repolles, 39, of Barangay Sagpon; Michael Millena, 39, of Barangay Tagas -- all in Daraga town -- and Edgar Manzano, 18, resident of Barangay 16 in this city.

The arrested persons, confiscated bet money and gambling paraphernalia were brought to the Daraga town police station for documentation and filing of illegal gambling charges against the suspects. (PNA) LAP/FGS/MSA/CBD/RSM
