Barangay regional league, PRO5 ink pact vs illegal drugs

LEGAZPI CITY, June 27 (PNA) -- The regional chairman of the league of barangays in Bicol and the Police Regional Office 5 head signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) supporting the National Anti-Drug Plan of Action (NADPA) 2015-2020 after the weekly flag-raising ceremony at Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here Monday.

Nelson A. Maraña of Barangay Maracabac, Castilla, Sorsogon, regional chairman of the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas-Bicol Chapter (LBP-Bicol) and PRO5 Regional Director Chief Supt. Augusto M. Marquez Jr. signed the MOU for their respective organizations..

The occasion was also the kick-off ceremony for the 21st Police Community Relations Month of the Philippine National Police to be observed in July.

Maraña was the guest and speaker during the occasion, which has for its theme "Matatag na Ugnayan, Ligtas na Pamayanan".

Also signing the MOU as expression of support for the NADPA were Regional Director Elouisa T. Pastor of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Regional Director Ramon Fiel Abcede of the Department of Education and Regional Director George M. Colorado of the Commission of on Higher Education.

Marquez thanked Maraña for his support to the intensified campaign of the PRO5 against the rampant problem of illegal drugs in the region.

He also called on the public to help the police in eradicating the drug menace that has been the primary cause of crimes not only in the Philippines but also in the entire world.

This, the PRO5 chief said, is the priority of the Duterte administration.

Maraña pledged his full support and that of all barangays in the Bicol Region to the campaign of the government and the police against illegal drugs.

With the signed MOU, Marquez hopes for a stronger support from the villages through the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils in the region. (PNA) LAP/FGS/JH/CBD
