8 nabbed for compressor fishing in Sorsogon town

LEGAZPI CITY, June 13 (PNA) -- Members of the Bantay Dagat of the local government unit of Magallanes, Sorsogon arrested eight fishermen while fishing with the use of air compressor in successive operations in the seas off Barangay Behia of the town at about 10:30 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. Saturday, a police report said Monday.

The report identified the suspects as Raymund T. Arisapa, Jomar M. Tisoy and his brother Jeffrey Tisoy -- all residents of Barangay Tumalaytay, Castilla, Sorsogon.

Seized from them were a motorized banca with a 7.5HP Kenbo engine, fishing gear and several species of fish with a total weight of four kilos.

The sea guardians were headed by PO1 Rolan Geul of the Magallanes Municipal Police Station.

In the second Bantay Dagat operation led by PO3 Ruel Renolayan of the Police Regional Maritime Unit and Dion Castillo of LGU-Magallanes, the authorities caught in the act Romulo D. Miscala, Erwin L. Francisco, and Domingo H. Bose -- all residents of Barangay Tumalaytalay, Castilla, Sorsogon -- from whom they confiscated motorized banca powered by an 8HP Netto engine, underwater flashlights and several pieces of fish of various species.

The third operation led by PO1 Merk John Navarro resulted in the apprehension of Nerio D. Amador Jr. and Robert C. Delabajan -- both residents of Sitio Lourdes, Barangay Behia, Magallanes -- from whom the law enforcers seized a motor banca with a 5HP Kenbo engine, a roll of plastic hose, air tank compressor and other fishing gear and a kilo of different classes of fish.

The suspects are now under the custody of the Magallanes MPS and are facing cases for violation of Municipal Ordinance No.20-2005. (PNA) BNB/FGS/JH/CBD/EBP
