8 Bicol cops get award for arrest of 2 Masbate PAG leaders

LEGAZPI CITY, May 30 (PNA) -- Chief Supt. Augusto Marquez Jr., Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) regional director, personally pinned the Medal of Commendation and Medal of Merit to eight police officials during the Monday morning flag raising ceremony inside Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola for the arrest of two leaders of private armed groups (PAGs) in Masbate.

Leading those who received the PNP commendation medal was Police Supt. Edwin D. Portento, for leading the joint operating teams of the Regional Special Operation Task Group 5 (RSOTG5), Provincial Intelligence Branch Z (PIB), Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC), Balud Municipal Police Station and Masbate Police Provincial Office (MPPO) for the implementation of a search warrant at about 2 a.m. May 1 in Barangay.Pulang Duta, Balud, which resulted in the apprehension of Oriel Villaruel, leader of the Villaruel PAG and the confiscation of a grenade, .45-caliber pistol and ammunition.

Also recipient of the Medal of Merit were Police Chief Insp. Dennis V. Pabelonia, Police Chief Insp. Ariel D. Neri and PO1 Richard L. Extremadora.

Given the PNP merit medal were four members of the joint operating teams from the RSOTG5, PIB, PPSC, Dimalasang Municipal Police Station, MPPO and 35th PNP Special Action Force (SAF) -- Police Insp. Aaron James Hilado, Insp. Wilbert Padangaran Jr., Insp. Larry C. Bremen and PO1 Richieval R. Pimentel.

Hilado, Pandangaran, Bremen and Pimentel received the medal for successfully serving a search warrant and s warrant of arrest at about 1:30 a.m. April 20 at Barangay G. AliƱo, Dimasalang, Masbate.

The search resulted in the arrest of Ramie Arizobal, leader of the Arizobal PAG, and the latter's members Ariel Arizobal and Porferio Atabay Jr. and the confiscation of more than one gram of shabu, drug paraphernalia, a grenade, two .45-caliber pistol, magazines and ammunition. (PNA) FFC/FGS/JH/cbd
