United Albay youth help ensure successful elections
By Joana Angela Prianes

LEGAZPI CITY, May 9 (PNA) -- Youth volunteers from different parts of the region united to ensure honest and peaceful elections by giving updates and news about the local and national elections from the cities and municipalities they were assigned on through social media.

The Team Albay Youth Organizations (TAYO) came up with PIRILIAN2016 where they searched for youth volunteers to act as correspondents in different cities and municipalities in the region for their streaming in their Facebook page.

Alfred Nimo, TAYO chair and the brain of the program, said he came up with the idea to ensure that there would be honest and peaceful elections as well for the general public to be updated with the elections ongoings, especially in the Bicol Region.

"I just conceptualized it to maximize the power of social media and the youth," he further said.

Youth correspondents were scattered throughout the region -- including some parts of Masbate, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, almost all municipalities of Albay, except for Camarines Norte.

A youth correspondent from Ligao City said he was grateful for serving and being part of a responsible election by watching and giving updates on the happenings on the precinct he was assigned to.

"Being a youth correspondent is something new to me. I never thought of being one. However, its purpose of giving updates to the youth regarding this year's national elections inspires me to become a change agent and serve our community, which is why I never thought twice to be one of the youth correspondents." Kimbhert Prollamante, youth correspondent of Ligao City, said. (PNA) RMA/FGS/JAP/CBD/EDS
