LEGAZPI CITY, May 10 (PNA) -- Outgoing Camalig (Albay) Mayor Carlos "Caloy" Baldo assured his constituents of the continuous development of the municipality after he won the vice mayoral position while his brother Ahrdail "Ding" Baldo captured the mayoral seat in the May 9 elections.
The Baldo brothers were proclaimed mayor and vice mayor at about 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Municipal Board of Canvassers.
Ahrdail will take over the helm of the town's leadership as mayor on July 1 in place of Carlos who will step down on June 30.
In an interview with Carlos, he expressed joy for the twin wins he and his brother garnered.
Ahrdail defeated Vice Mayor Ging Nebres for the mayoral seat while Carlos will occupy the vice mayoral post to be vacated by Nebres.
Carlos said this would mean a lot for the continuous development of Camalig town, famous for its pinangat delicacy and new tourist spots like the Sumlang Lake and the Quitinday Green Hills.
He said they can now proceed unhampered with the development of their town whose projects and programs, he said, were not supported by the former vice mayor.
The incumbent mayor said he has full confidence in his brother, mayor-elect Ding, to be able to take over the position he will vacate after June 30 as the latter has served as his executive secretary and has been with him working for the good of their town.
Carlos said they can now work for the development of local tourism in Camalig, like the program to develop and make famous the Quitinday and Quituinan hills, underground river and green lake in Barangay Binanderahan.
The Baldo brothers also have a program to open more employment opportunities for their constituents.
They are also pushing for an animal trading post in Camalig, improve the slaughterhouse and establish a sanitary landfill as required by the law.
Carlos added that with the election of their younger and third brother, Carlwyn, as vice mayor of nearby Daraga town, the Baldo brothers plan to have a strong partnership between Daraga and Camalig.
Carlwyn won over Vice Mayor Carlito Baylon in Daraga.
Since Daraga and Camalig towns are neighbors, there would be many projects and programs that the local government units can work for together for the common good of their respective constituents, Carlos said. (PNA) RMA/FGS/JH/CBD
