Comelec notes orderly elections in Albay
By Nancy Ibo Mediavillo

LEGAZPI CITY, May 9 (PNA) -- The conduct of elections in Albay was orderly and peaceful, lawyer Alberto Canares III, Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Albay officer, said one hour before the casting of votes ended in places where the opening of voting was delayed while others had already closed.

Canares said as a whole, the election proper in the province was peaceful, with not a single untoward incident registered in the province, except for the failure of some vote counting machines (VCM) in certain voting precincts.

He said that of more than 1,300 clustered precincts in Albay, only one changed VCM while other VCMs that had problems were immediately fixed.

Among the problems encountered were the jamming of paper, which was not accepted by the machine.

The voters praised the Comelec because, they said, whoever they voted for was the same name that came out of the receipt

At noontime, Canares said, the commission did the connectivity test, the connection of the provincial board of canvassers to the main, central and transparency server.

He said the Provincial Board of Canvassers of Albay will immediately convene within two to three days to proclaim the winning candidates in the local positions from congressmen, governor, vice governor, provincial board members, mayor, vice mayor, city or municipal councilors.
