Case filed vs man with 330 kilos of fish caught using dynamite

LEGAZPI CITY, May 24 (PNA) -- Authorities on Tuesday morning filed a case of violation of Section 126 of Republic Act No. 8550 against a fish broker found in possession of 330 kilos of illegally caught fish.

Joint operatives of the Bulan Municipal Police Station (BMPS) and the Fishery Division of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture of Sorsogon confiscated 16 styrofoam boxes containing the assorted fishes at Bulan Port, Barangay Zone 4 early Monday morning.

A police report reaching Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here said the BMPS received a call from the Sorsogon agriculture office that a fish cargo from Mandaon town in Masbate would land at the Bulan Port.

The combined elements of the two law enforcement agencies led by Maritess Gelua of the Bulan Municipal Agriculture Office and SPO2 Edgar Calupit immediately proceeded to the Bulan port where they discovered 11 boxes full of fish of various species and weighing 220 kilos.

While the authorities were doing an investigation, they discovered five more boxes of fish of different varieties and weighing 110 kilos in the possession of fish broker Louie G. Meteoro, 42, who was able to escape.

During the investigation by Provincial Agriculture Office fish examiners Nacer Bataller and Ronilo Conde, they confirmed that the fish catch was a result of dynamite blasting. (PNA) LAP/FGS/JH/CBD
