LEGAZPI CITY, May 3 (PNA) -- Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Regional Office personnel caught a prisoner in Albay District Jail in Barangay Tagas, Daraga, Albay with shabu when they conducted a surprise inspection in relation with their "Operation Greyhound" at about 8:12 a.m. Monday, a BJMP report said Tuesday.
Jail Senior Insp. Joseph Lucila, BJMP Regional Office spokesperson, identified the inmate as Geronimo C. Bacaya -- 35, single and native of Zone 1, Brangay Bilbao, Rapu-Rapu, Albay -- who BJMP officers arrested inside his detention cell when they found two pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu during their body search on him.
Bacaya has been locked in jail for one year now due to the same offense of trading on illegal drugs.
Lucila said Jail Senior Insp. Rodolfo Versosa, newly installed acting Albay District jail officer, requested them to conduct Operation Greyhound inside their detention cells after receiving reports that some inmates or residents have illegal drugs and contraband items like cellphones.
Immediately the BJMP's Special Tactics and Response Team led by Jail Senior Insp. Freddie Caballero led the search operation which resulted in the arrest of Bacaya.
Lucila said the Operation Greyhound of the Bicol-BJMP is now conducting intelligence gathering in all detention cells in the region to intercept the possible contraband items of the residents.
The Operation Greyhound of BJMP-Bicol is the counterpart of the Oplan Galugad being conducted in New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa by the Bureau of Corrections. (PNA) FFC/FGS/JH/CBD
