5,695 VCMs in Bicol start accepting votes

LEGAZPI CITY, May 9 (PNA) -- The 5,695 vote counting machines (VCMs) assigned in the Bicol Region started registering the ballots of registered voters as early as 6 a.m.

Of the total VCMs, Albay has 1,312; Camarines Sur, 1,816; Camarines Norte, 519; Catanduanes, 376; Masbate, 867, and Sorsoogon, 805.

The region has about 3.3 million registered voters.

Of the registered voters, Camarines Sur has more than one million; Albay, more than 742,000; Camarines Norte, more than 300,000; Masbate, more than 477,000; Sorsogon, more than 425,000; and Catanduanes, more than 173,000.

The combined forces of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are all ready for any contingency, the Comelec said.

The Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard are on continuous patrol of the seas in the region during the election time while the Philippine Air Force's Tactical Operations Group-Bicol (TOG 5) has two helicopters on standby for use anytime. (PNA) FFC/FGS/NIM/CBD/EBP
