Sprint games thrill viewers on Day 1 of Palaro

LEGAZPI CITY, April 12 (PNA) -- The first day of Palarong Pambansa 2016 in athletics at the Bicol University oval gave the viewers a nondescript feeling.

Starting with the first event at 6 a.m., the 3,000-meter track in secondary (girls), the spectators held their breath in anxiety until Moa Gey Alialiaah Ninura of the Davao Region finished as first, clinching a gold medal for a time of 10:30.4.

Jie Ann Calis and Camila Tubiano of Region X (Northern Mindanao) emerged second and third for silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Athlete No. 727, Albert Jose Damaso of the Zamboanga Peninsula Region, topped in the 100-m sprint for elementary (boys) while Bicol Region's Divina Mahusay outran others the 100 m sprint (elementary-girls).

Lejany Salafania of Western Visayas ranked first in 100-m run (secondary-girls) while athlete No. 363, Feberoy Kasi of SOCCSKSARGEN, was No. 1 in the 100-m distance, secondary-boys.

In event No. 3, the shot put, Bicol Region's Daniella M. Camonoga won the gold medal in elementary-girls with a distance of 9.42 m while ranked second was Emgiel Duran of the newly-established Negros Island Region, garnering a silver medal.

Valerie Cassandra of Western Visayas ranked third and won a bronze medal.

Ronald Lacson of the Western Visayas Region defeated his competitors by registering a distance of 55.81 and won a gold medal in javelin throw (secondary-boys).
