By Desiree Balmes

LEGAZPI CITY, April 12 (PNA) -- Despite getting injured in last year's Palarong Pambansa in Tagum City last year, Bicol Region's Divina Mahusay played again for the Palarong Pambansa and emerged Monday as 1st placer in the 100-meter dash (elementary-girls).

"Masaya po (Happy)," Mahusay said after she won the first place and became a finalist.

The 12-year-old lass from Barangay Calasgasan, Daet, Camarines Norte was in best eight in last year's Palaro.

She started to train as an athlete when she was a fifth grader.

"Nagtatakbo-takbo lang po kami sa school (We were just running in school)," Mahusay said on how she discovered her talent in running.

Her fastest time is 12 seconds in 200 m dash.

Following a strict time management, she sleeps at 8 p.m. and by 3 a.m. the following day, she is awake and up.

She expects that her ultimate rival is in the National Capital Region delegation and despite her tight competition schedule, she said she manages to make friends with athletes of other regions.

"Sana po manalo ako (I hope I win)," Mahusay said, looking forward toward doing her best to win the sprint game. (PNA) LAP/FGS/DB/CBD/SSC
