By Jorge Hallare

LEGAZPI CITY, March 14 (PNA) -- The Philippine National Police Bicol regional office and the Kabalikat Civicom signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for an exchange of information at Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here during the camp's flag-raising ceremony on Monday.

Chief Supt. Augusto M. Marquez Jr. and Kabalikat Civicom 5 regional governor Archimedes P. Salvino signed the MOA for a close communication for the exchange of information between the two entities.

Based on the MOA, the Police Regional Office 5 and the Kabalikat Civicom will promote fast and effective communication and campaign on disaster preparedness and emergency especially during the forthcoming elections on May 9.

Marquez underscored the importance of cooperation between the PNP and Kabalikat Civicom, especially in times of emergency and calamity like the onslaught of typhoon "Yolanda" during which all communication facilities of PRO5 bogged down and the communication capability of the Kabalikat Civicom played a major role in the dissemination of information.

The PNP and Kabalikat will provide a standby frequency for a two-way radio facility that can be used by the two entities during disaster, emergency and occurrence of crime.

The Kabalikat will also assist the PNP in the improvement of the communication network as part of the modernization plan of PRO5.

The PNP will give the Kabalikat a communication access to police stations for emergency response and police assistance to the public during actual disaster and emergency operations.

Members of the Kabalikat Civicom chapters in the six provinces of Bicol attended the MOA signing. (PNA) FFC/FGS/JH/CBD
