DTI holds forum on proper use of coco geonets
By Connie B. Destura

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 14 (PNA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bicol regional office will conduct a one-day forum on the proper usage and utilization of coco geonets in soil erosion projects on Monday at Casa Lorenzo, Tagas, Daraga, Albay.

Aimed to create awareness among contractors and processors on the proper usage of geonets, the forum will start at 8:30 a.m.

It will also instill quality consciousness among processors and contractors as there are reports on collapsing soil erosion-control projects due to lack of knowledge on product’s usage and utility features.

The forum will also pave the way for the contractors and processors to better understand the coco net’s quality standards.

Coco geonet manufacturing, which makes use of coconut husks, is something profitable that the region is getting into this endeavor.

Participants in the forum are contractors, processors, and representatives from national government agencies.

The first part of the forum will include discussions on the major government programs for the coco coir industry as well as private sector initiatives.

The second part will focus on the status of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) soil-erosion projects vis-à-vis standards specifications for coco coir-based geonets.

The resource persons include DTI-Region IV-A Assistant Regional Director Marcelina S. Alcantara, the National Coco Coir Industry Cluster coordinator, who will talk about the “2016 Coco Coir Potential Market.”

Other speakers are from the Philippine Coconut Authority and the DPWH. (PNA) SCS/FGS/CBD/SSC
