Catanduanes police nab man for drug, firearms

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 23 (PNA) -- Joint operatives of three police units in Catanduanes arrested the No. 5 drug personality in the province at his residence in Barangay Gogon Centro, Virac town on Monday.

Armed with Search Warrant No. 2016-10 for violation of RA 9165 issued by Lelu P. Contreras, executive judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 43, 5th Judicial Region, Virac, Catanduanes, members of the Virac Municipal Police Station, Catanduanes Provincial Police office and Catanduanes Intelligence an Detection Team led by Insp. Jean B. Calleja cornered Manuel Charlie Taopo at his residence.

During the search operation, the raiding authorities recovered and seized from the suspect six big transparent heat-sealed plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, one caliber .22 revolver magnum without serial number and with four live ammunition, two cellphones, various drug-related and non-drug items, peso bills in various denominations, one drive max capsule, and one wallet containing two driver's licenses, one Land Bank ATM Card, one temporary driver license, one OR for a driver's license, two PHP20 bills and one BDO deposit slip.

The search and seizure operation was witnessed by media representative Donnie Vic G. Tabirara, barangay chairman Eliseo D. Frontuna Jr. and barangay kagawad Santos Burce.

Taopo underwent a medical examination at EBMC Hospital in Virac, Catanduanes and is now under the custody of Virac MPS which has filed cases against him for violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002) and RA 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition).(PNA) FFC/FGS/EMC/CBD
