Police nab cop killer in Camarines Sur

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 27 (PNA) -- Police operatives have arrested the suspect that shot dead on Sunday a town police officer in Barangay Amomokpok, Ragay, a railroad town in Camarines Sur, a Philippine National Police (PNP) official said today.

Police Chief Insp. Ariel Blanco on Wednesday said police arrested Roman Tedenio, 25, a native of Barangay F. Simeon, Ragay town, who, according to a witness, was responsible for the killing of Senior Police Officer 2 Julieto Egay Mondigo Jr., a member of the Ragay Municipal Police Station.

In a phone interview, Blanco said the motorcycle used by Tedenio to locate the victim and which he consequently left when he fled the crime scene led police investigators to pinning him down.

He said Manuel Dumalais Jr., the owner of the Honda motorcycle (PN7782) used by the suspect, told the police that the motorcycle was borrowed by the suspect's sister from his wife.

Blanco said investigators were able to immediately determine the motive of the killing as a long personal grudge between the suspect and the victim.

Police operatives collared the suspect at around 8 a.m. Monday while he was seeking refuge in Barangay Damay, a remote village in Ragay town.

Police Senior Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib said the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds from various parts of his body and attending physician of the Ragay Rural Health Unit declared him dead on arrival.

Responding police recovered from the crime scene five empty shells from 9mm handgun, two slugs of 9mm, two empty shells from a .45- caliber pistol, two live bullets from .45-caliber handgun and a motorcycle.

Blanco said arresting policemen were able to seize from the possession of the suspect the cal. 9mm service handgun of the victim while the cal. 45 pistol allegedly used by the suspect was missing.(PNA) FFC/FGS/MSA/CBD
