Dump truck plows into 4 vehicles; 1 dies

CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, Dec. 31 (PNA) -- A driver of a tricycle died while those of three other vehicles were critically injured when a dump truck mowed into them at Purok 2, Barangay Busay, Daraga, Albay at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A police report identified the victim, who was dead on the spot, as Jimmy Ortega, 57, a resident of Barangay Cabangan, Camalig, Albay.

Injured and rushed to the Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital were Angelo Belaro, 37, another tricycle driver and a resident of Barangay Malabog, Camalig; Aziel Dairo, 28, driver of an Izusu jeepney; and Genly Lopez, 60, driver of a Toyota Revo.

The Izusu dump truck was driven by by Ricardo Nabesa Jr., 48, of Tula-Tula Grande, Ligao City.

Police Senior Supt. Marlo S. Meneses, Albay provincial police director, said the dump truck came from Guinobatan town and was bound for Legazpi City when it lost its brakes and rammed the four vehicles coming from the opposite direction.

Responding authorities immediately brought the victims to the hospital for treatment while Nabesa is now at the custody of the Daraga Municipal Police Station for filing of appropriate charges. (PNA) SCS/FGS/EMC/CBD/mec
