LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 28 (PNA) -- The eight devolved government hospitals in Albay posted more than PHP81 million in combined earnings last year, Dr. Nathaniel Rempillo, Provincial Health Officer (PHO), said Thursday.
Rempillo identified the hospitals as Ziga Memorial District Hospital, Cagraray Municipal Hospital, Villa Hermosa Hospital, Rapu-Rapu Hospital, Manito Hospital, J. B. Duran District Hospital, Pantao Hospital and Pioduran Hospital.
He said 70-80 percent of the combined earnings came from PhilHealth payments or Point of Case and the others came from payments for laboratory tests, X-ray examinations, room rental and other hospital services.
"This shows the growing trust and confidence of the public to the government hospitals devolved to the province," the PHO chief said.
He vowed to work hard to elevate the quality of service of these hospitals.
Aside from the rehabilitation of the hospital facilities, the Department of Health, Rempillo said, has allotted PHP100 million for the province under the Health Facility Enhancement Program this year.
This includes those in barangays, rural health units and three infirmaries in the towns of Daraga, Guinobatan and Bacacay.
According to him, the provincial government is now working on making operating rooms of district hospitals operational.
Among the eight hospitals, the PHO head said, JBMDH and the ZMDH are almost complete with facilities, adding that it is Salceda's objective to finish these.
Rempillo said the strategy that the province is using to use the PhilHealth benefits right is to enroll the members right at the hospital at the time confinement because they are already using these.
He said the province is paying high for this scheme, amounting to PHP2,400, but the patients are already benefiting, unlike when they are not at the hospital, it would be impossible for them to enroll.
The budget of the PHO this year is PHP150 million while the district hospitals have PHP10 million each. (PNA) FFC/FGS/NIM/CBD
