6 Legazpi villages get Sandugo awards

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 4 (PNA) -- Six barangays) of this city received awards with cash incentives for their active participation in the blood-letting activities conducted regularly by the Legazpi City Health Office (CHO).

Mayor Noel E. Rosal said he will ask all barangay officials and other organizations to encourage the people at their own respective areas to always participate in the blood-letting activities of the CHO and continue to promote voluntary blood donation in order to provide an adequate supply of safe blood for transfusion.

The three villages under Big Barangays Category that got the Sandugo Awards are Oro Site, Bitano and Tamaoyan while the three under Small Barangay Category are EM’s Barrio 3, Maoyod and Mariawa.

The 11 barangays that got the Sandugo Hall of Famer Awards are the villages of EM’s Barrio 2, EM’s Barrio 3, Maoyod, Lapu-Lapu, Victory Village 27, PNR, Bitano, Padang, Dapdap, Mariawa and San Francisco.

All the awardees achieved the required one percent of the total population at their own respective areas that donated blood during the blood-letting activities conducted by the CHO.

The Sandugo Awards is part of the commitment of the city administration and all the barangay officials toward the successful implementation of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program by the Department of Health (DOH), which aims to ensure an adequate and sustainable supply of safe blood for blood transfusion purposes.

CHO chief Dr. Fulbert Gillego said the bags of blood collected by his office have already been endorsed to the DOH Bicol regional office for proper storage.

The blood supply will be preserved and reserved for those patients who need medical blood transfusion.

Gillego said patients who want to avail of safe blood should simply present to the CHO a letter from a doctor in order to know what type of blood they need.

If there are patients at the barangay, they must also present to the CHO the withdrawal issued by the hospital and signed by the barangay chairmen or head of the concerned agencies, he added.

He said the blood-letting program of his office has been recognized already by the DOH as its blood collecting unit.(PNA) FFC/FGS/EPS/CBD
