LEGAZPI CITY, Dec. 15 (PNA) -- Typhoon "Nona" battered Albay province for one-and-a-half hours Monday night, an official of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Tuesday.
Lilian Guillermo, a staff member of the PAGASA Legazpi, said the province felt the fury of Nona as it swept through the province with winds of 100-120 kph.
Guillermo said the nearest distance to the eye of the typhoon in Albay was 30 kilometers and was in the second district of Albay.
In Legazpi City, the nearest distance was 50 km at past 6 p.m. Monday, she said.
The PAGASA official said the heaviest rain felt by the province was about 50 millimeters between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Nona felled electric posts and trees in Albay, authorities said.
Disaster officials said they would come out with an assessment report on Wednesday, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and infrastructure.
Guillermo also said that after its second landfall in Magallanes, Sorsogon, Nona struck at Claveria, Masbate.
