Teacher dies in Albay scouts camping event

CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, Nov. 8 (PNA) -- A 53-year-old teacher-coordinator of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and the Girl Scouts of the Philippines-Albay Chapter did not reach the hospital alive after he was found unconscious by fellow mentors at his tent in the camp site of the 22nd Scouts Provincial Jamboree in Barangay Bamban, Manito, Albay on Sunday morning.

Romeo Barbacena, married and a teacher of San Carlos Elementary School in Tabaco City, did not reach the Manito District Hospital alive where he was brought.

A police report said Barbacena was found by fellow scouters lying unconscious on his bed inside his tent at about 4:30 a.m.

His companions believed that he was a victim of heart attack while sleeping.

Gloom suddenly engulfed the boy and girl scouts who were enjoying the different activities at the camp site while authorities immediately informed Barbacena's relatives of what had happened.

Thousands of boy and girl scouts, coordinators and officials attended the yearly provincial jamboree. (PNA) SCS/FGS/EMC/CBD/PJN
