LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 19 (PNA) -- After patching up political differences in the past, re-electionist Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal vowed to support the congressional bid of outgoing governor Joey Sarte Salceda for the second district of Albay.
The political conciliation between Rosal and Salceda was arranged by well-known businessmen Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, chief executive officer of Sunwest Group of Companies, whose brother, AKB partilyst Rep. Christopher Co, also has an animosity with Salceda.
Owing to the settlement of political differences, Rosal said he will support the congressional bid of Salceda after Co shelved his intention to run for the same post.
“We will support the congressional bid of Governor Joey Salceda for the second district,” Rosal said.
On Thursday, Rosal filed his certificate of candidacy along with his running mate, re-electionist incumbent Vice Mayor Vitorio Roces, and their 10-man slate for city councilors with the office of lawyer Jasmin Cecilia Banzuela-Bilarmino, city election officer. Rosal is running for his second term as mayor.
His wife, Geraldine, was also elected mayor for one term.
In the 2013 election, Rosal was unopposed and todate no one has tried to contest his candidacy.
Two Liberal Party (LP) mayoral candidates filed their Certificates of Candidacy (CoCs) in separate Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices in the cities of Tabaco and Legazpi on Thursday, with big supporters witnessing.
Comebacking Krisel Lagman-Luistro, former Tabaco City mayor for two terms, filed her COC for the mayoral post.
Luistro, who is running under the LP, together with her complete lineup of candidates for vice mayor and city councilors, submitted their respective CoCs to lawyer Niel Canicula, Comelec Tabaco City officer, with hundreds of political supporters in yellow shirts witnessing the significant event.
The big number of her political supporters created a slight traffic jam at the city’s main street.
Luistro is the eldest daughter of former representative Edcel C. Lagman (LP, 1st District) who is also seeking to reclaim the seat held by his son, Albay Rep. Grex Lagman, who gave way to the request of the elder Lagman.(PNA) FPV/FGS/RBB/CBD
