LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 29 (PNA) -- At least 19 programs being offered by the Bicol University (BU) were submitted for accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), scheduled September 29 to October 3 in the main campus in Daraga and in the Tabaco Campus (TC).
These programs were offered by the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) and the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) in the main campus; College of Business Economics and Management (CBEM) and College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) in Daraga Campus; and the TC.
Submitted to level 1 accreditation were Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting (CAL); Bachelor of Science in Social Work (CSSP), Bachelor of Science in Food Technology in TC; Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (CBEM), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (TC) and Bachelor of Secondary Education – Biological Science, Math and Physical Science majors in TC.
For level II, submitted were Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology and Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology (CIT); and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (CSSP); while for level III, Bachelor of Arts in English (CAL); Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor of Science in Social Work of CSSP; and Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and Bachelor of Science in Management of CBEM will be evaluated.
The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management (majors: Human Resources, Development Marketing Management, Operations Management, Financial Management and Microfinance) of CBEM was the only program submitted to preliminary survey.
In the opening program, Dr. Arnulfo Mascariṅas, the 8th BU president, said this accreditation is one way of subjecting the university into the process of quality assurance anchored onachieving the vision of the university to become a world-class university.
“Accreditation is something that we have to internalize, because we look at it as part of our vision of making BU a world-class university. We cannot proceed to this vision unless we have all programs accredited,” he said.
Mascariṅas said they have targeted all programs to be evaluated to the highest level of accreditation.
He also cited the major accomplishments of the university for the past academic years such as State University And Colleges (SUCs) level by the Department of Budget and Management Standards; 9th biggest in enrollment and 5th in General Appropriation Acts budget; one of the 22 leading SUCs; ISO 9001: 2008 certified (by institution); Commission on Higher Education’s Center for teaching excellence (College of Education), development for fisheries education (TC), higher education regional research and zonal research center of region 5; College of Education as Department of Education’s Teacher Training Institute; Base agency for Bicol Consortium for health research and development and Agri-research development, among others.
Based on the record, among the courses offered, the university has 29 programs level I accredited, 25 level II accredited, 8 level III accredited and 3 level 4 accredited.
The 56 accreditors coming from different SUCs were led by Dr. Marivic Sanchez, who assured of being objective in evaluating the 19 programs.
“I feel so elated with the profile of excellence attached to the BU, it seems that you’re never get tired in your desire to continuously uphold, maintain and sustain quality excellence. With the 19 programs submitted, it seems that you still love accreditation despite all the achievements,” the overall coordinator said.
