LEGAZPI CITY, July 22 (PNA) -- The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Sorsogon office has warned anew the residents around Mt. Bulusan, especially those who live near river channels, to be always on alert for possible lahar flows during heavy and sustained rains.
The Phivolcs made the warning in view of the low pressure area detected east of Virac, Cataunduanes.
Abner Epe, Phivolcs science research analyst, specifically warned those residing in Barangay Rangas in Juban town and Barangay Cogon in Irosin.
Epe said there is always the threat of lahar flows because of the presence of old and new ash deposits, that is why he always reiterates this warning for the safety of the public.
He noted that the present condition in the Bulusan area is characterized by cloudiness.
Phivolcs instruments detected one quake during the past 24-hour observation period but clouds prevented agency personnel to see the activities at the volcano's summit.
Alert level 1 is still on.(PNA) FFC/FGS/NIM/CBD/PJN
