LEGAZPI CITY, May 11 (PNA) –- Villagers who live around the Bulusan Volcano who were evacuated earlier due to the threat of possible hazards posed by Typhoon “Dodong” have returned to their homes after the weather disturbance veered away from the Bicol Region.
Engineer Raden Dimaano, Sorsogon Provncial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief, said 300 persons were earlier evacuated by the local government unit due to the possible associated hazards that Dodong could bring.
He, however, clarified that those residing within the four-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) of the volcano have not been allowed to return home and they are still staying with their relatives outside the zone.
Those affected are residents of Barangay Cogon and Barangay Mapaso in Irosin town.
Dimaano said the Sorsogon PDRRMO is continuously monitoring Mt. Bulusan for possible explosion like a phreatic one because the alert level on the volcano is still at level one.
He said his office is continuously coordinating with the regional offices of national government agencies under the Office of Civil Defense 5 as lead agency of the Regional DRRMC. (PNA) FFC/FGS/NIM/CBD/RCG
