LEGAZPI CITY, March 1 (PNA) -- Rep. Deogracias Ramos (Second District, Sorsogon) has appealed to all government agencies in the Bicol Region for cooperation and closer working relation towards the development of the region.
Ramos made the call following his assumption of the chairmanship of the House of Representatives’ Bicol Economic Recovery and Development Committee (BERDC), which is tasked to initiate moves for the continuous development of Bicol -- considered one of the poorest regions in the country.
The new BERDC chair took over the leadership of the committee from Party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe who now chairs the climate change committee.
“We are coming up with a strategic plan on how to accelerate the development of Bicol and one of the priorities is food security,” he said.
The Sorsogon lawmaker disclosed that a subcommittee on food security chaired by Congressman Wimpy Fuentebella had already made initial actions on the matter but has yet to inform the BERDC of any development.
In a meeting with regional directors here Friday, Ramos said a hearing will be called by his committee on the first week of March wherein four regional directors have been invited.
He said the committee will not allow proxies to be sent by the directors and those who will snub the invitation will be dealt with accordingly by the BERDC.
“Regional directors, as alter ego of their department secretaries, must personally attend the hearing because proxies have no power to make commitments for and in their behalf, especially if the issue to be tackled needs decisive action,” he stressed. (PNA) SCS/FGS/BQL/CBD/PJN
