LEGAZPI CITY, March 3 (PNA) – About 210 barangays in the whole province of Albay will be implementing the Barangay Forest Program (BFP) as part of the National Greening Program of the government, the biggest reforestation project under the term of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Engineer Gilbert Gonzales, Department of Environment and Natural Resources regional executive director, said the program will be launched on Saturday at the Albay Astrodome here with the presence of DENR Secretary Ramon Paje and Albay Gov. Jose Sarte Salceda who will also both sign the memorandum of agreement for the program.

Salceda will also present the partner-barangays who are involved in the program

Gonzales said the DENR has already conducted an assessment and survey of 183 barangays, covering 1,665 hectares of the total target area for the BFP in Albay.

Employing newly hired extension workers, the DENR is still assessing and surveying the rest of the 210 villages.

The agency will also conduct a series of orientations among municipal officials of the towns that have jurisdiction on the partner-barangays in the BFP.

The program is part of the massive National Greening Program embodied in the Executive Order No. 26 of 2011, a priority program of the present administration aimed at planting 1.5 billion seedlings in 1.5 million hectares of public domain in the entire country from 2011 to 2016. (PNA) CTB/FGS/CBD
