LEGAZPI CITY, March 20 (PNA) -- After Albay province won as the National Best PDRRMC Gawad Kalasag Hall of Famer in 2011, it has been reaping more awards.

In fact, every year, the National Gawad Kalasag Awards being given by National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) does not fail to bestow awards or recognition to deserving LGUs or non-government organizations in the province.

The province is again an awardee for its 2014 DRR programs which it will receive at Camp Aguinaldo on March 26.

The town of Sto. Domingo headed by Mayor Herbie Aguas will be awarded as the National Best MDRRMC Hall of Famer for 4th-6th Class Municipality.

For the second time, the following LGUs will also receive awards: Legazpi City headed by Mayor Noel Rosal as Best CDRRMC Component City; Barangay Oro Site, Legazpi City, led Barangay Captain Joseph Philip Lee as Best Barangay DRRMC-Urban Category.

The Simon of Cyrene of Denden Villanueva-Cheang will get an award as Best Civil Society Organization-NGO.

The national awardee outside Albay is the DQ Liwag National High School in Vinzons, Camarines Norte, as Best School-Rural Category.

The three awardees in Albay are expected to be Hall of Famers, too, for this year although the honors will be done next year.

Governor Joey Sarte Salceda said these awardees have contributed a lot to the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office under Dr. Cedric Daep, particularly in the field of intellectual and moral support to the institution.

In this connection, Daep said, his office has been continuously making innovations not only because of its being the Best PDRRMC National Hall of Famer but also of its quality service to the public.

He said the APSEMO will continue with its Capacity Building Program for the LGUs -- municipal, city and barangay levels -- as well as for the private sector.

Daep said it is the commitment of the province to share its best practices in DRRM and CCA under the leadership of Salceda and the help of the Office of Civil Defense 5 headed by Regional Director Raffy Alejandro. (PNA) LAP/FGS/NIM/CBD/RSM
