DOLE-Albay gives Php1-M for Legazpi Nego-Kart project

LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 16 (PNA) -– The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Provincial Field Office of Albay on Monday turned over Php1.05 million to the City Government of Legazpi for the acquisition of Nego-Kart units to be distributed to 150 accredited ambulant vendors in the city.

Vice Mayor Vitorrio C. Roces, City Administrator Wilfredo “Pecos” Intia, Zoning Officer Precy Galicia and Public Employment Services Office Manager Ma. Kristine Zantua received the amount from Ella Berano, DOLE-Albay officer-in-charge, during the flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall Compound.

Zantua said in an interview that this livelihood project materialized when Mayor Noel E. Rosal told her to change the face of the Nego–Kart operating businesses in the downtown areas of this city and to make these have one uniform design.

Fortunately, during that time, she said, the DOLE Regional Office has a budget for this kind of livelihood program so she made a proposal for the Enhancement of Nego-Kart project to the labor agency.

Zantua revealed that her office made a tie-up agreement with city market administrator Julius del Rosario regarding this project and Del Rosario identified 150 ambulant vendors that have existing businesses with permits and licenses in this city.

The city administration allocated Php1,800 each to the 150 recipients or a total amount of Php270,000 while the 150 beneficiaries contributed Php1,500 each, or a total amount of Php225,000.

Zantua pointed out that the estimated assembling time for the 150 karts is two to four months.

It has a total allocated budget of Php10,000 each.

This Nego-Kart project is a three-counterparting budget among the City Government of Legazpi, DOLE and 150 vendors.

The project is part of the DOLE’s Kabuhayan Program intended to improve the living condition of vulnerable group of workers by way of helping them operate livelihood activities as source of their daily income.

The labor agency will regularly monitor and inspect the implementation of this livelihood project and verify all the financial records and reports of the city administration. (PNA) CTB/FGS/EPS/cbd/utb
