LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 25 (PNA) -- Some 500 personnel who are directly involved in the solid waste management of this city received relief goods from the office of Vice President Jejomar Binay during a ceremony held at the newly constructed activity center inside the motor pool compound here Tuesday.

Salve Corral, chief of the Legazpi City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), said the distributed goods included at least two kilos of rice, noodles, sardines and other canned items.

Corral said the recipients were the eco-aides, eco-waste managers, garbage collectors, street sweepers, garbage vehicle drivers, and other personnel directly involved in the city's solid waste management and segregation works.

She said it was Binay who identified the recipients who, the official said, belong to the marginalized sector of the community.

"Probably Vice President Binay wants to help our personnel involved in the solid management works because they are among those most affected during the onslaught of calamities such as Typhoon "Glenda" that directly hit Legazpi City last July 15," Corral said.

Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal expressed gratitude to the help extended by Binay to his constituents.

"We are very thankful to Vice President Binay for always remembering our constituents every time calamities hit our city," Rosal said. (PNA) LAP/FGS/EPS/CBD/
