Government operatives nab NPA rebel wanted for murder in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 13 (PNA) -- Joint operatives of government security and law enforcement units arrested on Tuesday night a New People's Army (NPA) rebel in his residence in Barangay Basicao Interior, Pioduran, Albay.

Combined elements of the Pioduran Municipal Police office, Albay Provincial Police Office (APPO), 5th Regional Public Safety Battalion , 97th Military Intelligence Company and 2nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army arrested Alberto Bronzal alias Ka Berto.

APPO director Senior Supt. Marlo Meneses said the authorities swooped down on the residence of Bronzal at about 11:00 p.m. and apprehended the suspect based on the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Pedro R. Soriano of Regional Trial Court Branch 13, Ligao City, for two counts of murder.

Meneses said Bronzal had played a big role in NPA operations against government personnel and actively engaged in activities against the government in the past months.

He said the government troopers acted on an information that the wanted rebel was often seen in the area so they immediately set up an operation to get Bronzal. (PNA) LAM/FGS/EMC/CBD
