Retired police officer survives liquidation attempt

LEGAZPI CITY, June 3 (PNA) -- A retired police senior inspector who was shot by two motorcycle-riding men near his residence is now out of danger and is recuperating from gunshot wounds at the hospital, a top official of the Albay Provincial Police Office (APPO) said on Tuesday.

Senior Supt. Marlo S. Meneses, APPO director, said Ely M. Cadag Sr., 51, married, a retired police official of the Aviation Security Group, was walking near his residence at Purok 5, Barangay Pe├▒afrancia, Daraga, Albay, at about 9:00 p.m. on Saturday when two unidentified suspects riding a motorcycle with no plate number passed by him and the back rider shot him, hitting his upper chest.

The suspects immediately fled towards the direction of Barangay Dinoronan, Daraga, Meneses said.

The son of the victim, Mark Joseph, immediately reported the incident to the Daraga Municipal Police Office whose members rushed to the place of incident and brought Cadag to the Aquinas Hospital in Legazpi City for immediate medical treatment.

Cadag said he can identity the suspect if he will see them again.

Operatives of the DMPO are pursuing possible leads for the capture of the suspects. (PNA) LGI/FGS/EMC/CBD
