MASBATE CITY, June 12 (PNA) -- The long-time dream of Masbateños to have a facility for immediate medical treatment is now nearing realization with the “99-percent completion” of a modern 200-bed provincial hospital, the head of the Provincial Engineering Office said Thursday.
“After 92 years of being an independent province, Masbate has established a modern provincial hospital,” Provincial Engineer Nilo S. Condor said.
“Patients will no longer bear the difficulty of having to travel to other places as Masbate already has a hospital that is complete with facilities,” Condor added in the local dialect.
Governor Rizalina “Dayan” Seachon-Lanete gave assurance to the people of Masbate during her first State of the Province Address in 2010 that she would prioritize the medical needs of the public, he said.
Comparable to some known hospitals in Cebu and mainland Bicol, the modern provincial hospital is a four-storey building with an elevator and was constructed with an initial funding of P60 million, the provincial engineer said.
Condor said the hospital will soon accommodate patients needing hemodialysis treatment because of its HD equipment.
He said that through the initiative of Lanete, the Filminera Resources Corp. (FRC), the Philippine company that operates the Masbate Gold Project in Aroroy town, has granted the hospital P25-million worth of medical facilities and equipment such as CT scan, MRI, X-rays and HD equipment.
Condor said the government of France has also given medical donations to the newly built Masbate Provincial Hospital.
He disclosed that aside from the hospital, the provincial government is also constructing the Masbate Convention Center, which is the former Masbate Cultural Center, along the Capitol road.
It is beside the diagnostic building within the Masbate Provincial Health Office compound.
A group of barangay chairmen who recently visited the Provincial Capitol lauded the achievement of the present administration of Lanete for her ongoing projects. (PNA) LAP/FGS/NBT/CBD/UTB
