LEGAZPI CITY, May 26 (PNA) -- Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel A. Roxas III on Monday said he was not only impressed by the accomplishments of Albay under Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda but also by how Albayanos value their history.
"(At) ako ay pinaka mas na-impressed sa inyong pagpapahalaga sa kasaysayan... Ito'y pagpapakita ng inyong malawakang pagtingin sa inyong nakaraan, inyong kasaysayan. (And I am impressed most by how you value your history. It shows how you broadly look at your past, your history)," Roxas said.
The DILG secretary is now in Albay as part of his regular visits to local government units nationwide as head of the second largest department of the national government.
He will also visit the Regional Personnel Human Resource Development Division building and the new firing range of the Philippine National Police Bicol regional office at Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here.
He said the gathering of Albay’s history from libraries in Spain and spending for its printing showed how the Albayanos value it.
Roxas was referring to the earlier move by Salceda to distribute to the town mayors a copy of a printed book about the history of their respective hometowns, which was culled from a library in Seville, Spain.
He also stressed the importance of attending the regular Monday morning flag ceremony as “it gives us the chance to re-examine our dreams, goals and aspirations as a people.”
"This gives us the opportunity to recall and learn the lessons of our best practices and reconnect with each other," the DILG secretary added.
Roxas is scheduled to visit Naga City Tuesday.(PNA) FGS/CBD/
