1 dies, 7 injured in 3-vehicle smashup in Camarines Sur

CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, Jan. 9 (PNA) -– A local government employee died while seven passengers of a bus were injured in a smashup of a motorcycle, a passenger bus and a truck along the Rolando Andaya Highway in Barangay Gaongan, Sipocot, Camarines Sur, on Wednesday night.

A police report identified the casualty as Bernie Noceta, driver of the motorcycle, who died before reaching the Sipocot District Hospital.

Noceta was an employee of the local government unit of Sipocot town and a resident of Barangay North Centro, Sipocot.

Treated for injuries in the same hospital were Leonida Carijutan, Ivy Marie Angob, Nieves Caceres, Melanie Arisgado, Visitacion Dagome, Catherine Risos and Lanie Casugano – all from Calbayog City in northern Samar.

The report said that at about 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, an Isuzu truck being driven by Dario Balila of Sto. Domingo, Albay, overtook an Ultra passenger bus, being driven by Rex Turingan and which was en route for Samar from Metro Manila, in a curve portion of the road.

Unfortunately, the motorcycle of Noceta, which was coming from the opposite direction, collided with the overtaking bus whose driver lost control of it.

The bus hit the the rear portion of the truck.
