CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, Dec. 7 (PNA) – A male passenger of a bus bound for Samar and Leyte provinces died while 18 others were seriously injured when the bus they were riding in bumped a parked trailer truck along the Maharlika Higway in Barangay Morera, Guinobatan, Albay, early Friday morning.
A police report identified the dead passenger as Crisanto Luciano, 44, of Biliran, Samar.
Those injured, who were rushed to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, were identified as Eduardo Somarago, bus driver; Ronnie Tamuyag, Maria Balaso, Bhealyn Palogan, Rosalinda Zaide, Florencia Luciano, Rona Cayosa, Romulado Cayosa, Rhea Cayosa, Willy Villanueva, Judelyn Custodio, Romelyn Custodio, Herminigildo Albarico, Rolly Brian, Kris Albarico, Waen Matinez, Maria Cleofe Fallorina and Allan Coritana, residents of either Samar or Leyte.
A report of Senior Insp. Ruel Pedro, Guinobatan Municipal Police Office chief, said the accident happened at about 5:00 a.m. while the 14-wheeler trailer truck driven by Jerry Renus of Barangay Sirang, Calamba City, was parked at the side of the highway due to a flat tire when the Silver Star passenger driven by Somarago of San Isidro, Leyte, came speeding and hit its back.
The impact caused the death of Luciano who was seated at the front seat of the bus.
The report said the troubled trailer truck had no early warning device placed near its rear portion, causing the accident as it was still near-dark and cloudy that time.
The passenger bus came from Metro Manila and was bound for Samar and Leyte.
Most of its passengers are residents of the two provinces who were bound home.
The trailer was loaded with soft drinks which it would deliver in Legazpi City. (PNA) CTB/FGS/EMC/CBD
