LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 7 (PNA) – The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) announced Thursday afternoon that 520,897 persons have been evacuated from flood-prone barangays.
PDRRMC chairperson and Albay Governor Joey Salceda said all mayors are in close coordination with concerned agencies and food relief items have been distributed to affected individuals.
Salceda said the destructive effect of storm “Yolanda” is expected to hit Albay and its neighboring provinces Friday.
“This time, the PDRRMC has introduced a private evacuation approach, meaning, houses and other private buildings can be utilized as evacuation facility,” he said.
Salceda explained that the intention of private evacuation is to lessen the number of population in the public evacuation centers, however, those in the private evacuation buildings will also receive the same incentives such as relief, among others.
“Barangay captains have been directed to account for those families in the private evacuation,” he said.
Albay completed the evacuation late afternoon Thursday while waiting for the impact of Yolanda.
Office of Civil Defense Regional director Raffy Alejandro, meanwhile, said Sorsogon and Masbate provinces are most likely to be hard hit by Yolanda.
“Governors Raul Lee of Sorsogon and Rizalina Lanete of Masbate informed me that mass evacuations have been done in their respective provinces,” Alejandro said.(PNA) CTB/FGS/MDR/CBD/
