LEGAZPI CITY, April 11 (PNA) -- A total of 539 Bicolanos may be ‘happily’ joining the workforce very soon after the two-day pre-Labor Day Magayon Jobs Fair at the Albay Astrodome on April 9-10.
Nathaniel V. Lacambra, Department of Labor and Employment Bicol regional director based here, said Thursday that the jobs fair results recorded some 448 qualified applicants for local employment and 64 for overseas employment, while 27 were listed as hired-on-the-spot with a total tally of 539 applicants foreseen to be having their own jobs very soon.
“It is a success! It means that 539 families will get the chance to have a better life by having jobs. Ito ang matuwid na daan para sa amin (For us, this is the straight path),” Lacambra said during a press briefing at his office.
The pre-labor day jobs fair also solicited a total of 1,835 local vacancies and 1,700 overseas vacancies while the number of applicants was tallied at 1,654.
With these numbers, DOLE Bicol is confident in saying that a jobs fair is still the best program the DOLE has in terms of job placement.
“Dito sa mga numerong ito masusukat ang tagumpay ng programa ng DOLE at sa mga aplikanteng nagsasabing sila ay nakatipid sa pagdalo sa jobs fair (By these figures, one can gauge the success of the program of DOLE as well as by the number of applicants that say they saved by coming to the jobs fair),” Lacambra added.
The Magayon Jobs Fair is part of the celebration of the Daragang Magayon Festival 2013 and is sponsored by the Provincial Government of Albay through its Public Employment Service Office here in coordination with the DOLE-Provincial Field Office of Albay.(PNA) FPV/FGS/CBD/
